Residential Gateway: The Hub of the Digital Lifestyle
A key feature of residential IP gateway is that it can instantly switch from one multimedia service to another. Audiovisual streaming, VOD downloads and RSS news feeds are automatically switched to the user's terminal, whether it's a hightech mobile video/MP3 player, a PDA, smartphone, or other device.
Previews of upcoming films or TV programs, in high definition digital video, are switched to the hifi or to the portable stereo. Favourite tracks sare easily shared with others; just identify the device they're stored on (hard disk, MP3 player ...) and the Wi-Fi enabled device they should be played on, and the gateway looks after the rest.
